Tribute to Dick Zody

Richard E. Zody, Emeritus Professor of Urban Affairs & Planning, died at his home on July 21, 2007, at the age of 70. Dick was professor in UAP for 27 years, from 1976 until his retirement in 2003. He was an outstanding teacher and scholar, and effective advisor to Virginia state government as well as developing public management regimes around the word, and a wonderful colleague and friend. He will be sorely missed.

The Tribute includes a number of items about Dick and his professional and academic legacy. They reflect on his role as a colleague (James Bohland), teacher and mentor (Christine Martell), journal editor (Naomi Caiden), and advisor to state government (John Casteen). Also included are a professional obituary prepared by two of his former PhD students Michael Dougherty and James Smith and the family obituary published in the Roanoke Times.
